Teaching
What I love most about teaching theatre is watching students make discoveries and grow in confidence, both in their technical abilities and in their own creative choices.
I teach acting primarily through Practical Aesthetics, a grounded, specific technique that gives actors concrete tools to approach a character and a scene. I love that it doesn't depend on inspiration, innate talent, or sense memory—it's something actors can learn and put to work.
I've taught theatre at the high school and college levels, as well as working as a teaching artist. My other interests include physical and devised theatre and finding fresh approaches to classical texts.

Teaching Practice
Acting & Scene Work
I've taught acting at both high school and college levels, with a particular emphasis on grounded, specific approaches to script analysis and character development. My work at Marianopolis College and UC Davis included vocal training, scene work, and audition technique; at Sacramento High School and Marin Catholic, I also directed school productions.
Physical & Devised Theatre
My teaching also draws on my background in dance and devised performance. At Marianopolis, I taught Theatre Creation, where students developed original work through physical and devised techniques. I've also taught ballet and modern dance at UC Davis and worked as a dance and movement instructor in schools and studios.
Shakespeare & Classical Texts
My approach to teaching Shakespeare was shaped by the Globe Education Academy, where I trained in active, performance-based approaches to the plays. Through UC Davis's Artsbridge program, I developed Shakespeare curricula and led workshops for classroom teachers and undergraduate teaching artists. I've worked with students from elementary school through college, adapting the plays for different ages and experience levels—including a first-grade Tempest, an outdoor eighth-grade Macbeth, and a high school Romeo & Juliet staged across two performance spaces.
